“I was really excited when Kurt from Evolv said that new shoes were being released soon. The Shaman (Sharma’s new super shoe) and the Geshido (Evolv’s new high performance shoe) were the two new products that hit the shelves. I tried both on and was blown away by the Geshido. Both shoes share many of the same traits such as being aggressive with a love bump under the forefoot which locks your foot into place like a dream and they both have a triple velcro strap closure system. The Shaman seems to be more suited for climbers with a higher volume foot especially in the heel area. The Geshido however, fit my foot like a glove seeing as to how I have pretty narrow feet and a low volume heel. On the wall, the Geshido performed extremely well, especially being right out of the box. The toe edges extremely well and the heel cup stays in place even for insecure heel hooks. I believe that the Geshido will definitely live up to its name and get stuff done.”

Hanging around the gym on a Wednesday or Thursday afternoon? If so, then watch out for Jackson as he’s probably hanging from the roof of the bouldering room! This little guy is working his way up every overhanging wall in site. Though he makes the roof look huge, he attacks the wall with no fear and even less rest. To top it all off, he’s only in the 3rd grade! Somehow we managed to catch him on the ground and he gave us this installment of our member interview. Enjoy!

MEET JACKSON GORE!

So Jackson, how old are you? What grade are you in?
I’m 9 and a half and I’m in 3rd grade at Burris Elementary.

Where were you born?
Bloomington, Indiana.

What got you into climbing?
Before I discovered climbing I was always climbing trees and the furniture around the house and whatever else I could climb up high on. So, my mom took me to Hoosier Heights and I joined the Kids Club!

Why do you like climbing?
I like it because I have always liked being up high, I also like running and using my arms and legs. Climbing is like running because I’m using my arms and legs. I also like looking down and seeing how high I am!

What other sports do you like?
I like golf, tennis, and climbing.

Bouldering or TopRope?
Bouldering!

Can you see yourself doing this for a long time?
Yeah, for a really, really long time!

Do you feel like you are getting stronger?
Not really, I feel the same.

Which Kid’s Club mentor do you think is a stronger climber: Josh Fowler or Mark Jedele?
I don’t think either one is better, they’re the same.

Who do you think would win in a battle: Buzz Light year or Woody?
Probably Woody because Buzz has a lot of lasers but none of them really work.

Can you offer any tips to older guys who can’t climb as hard as you?
I’m not really sure.

What is your favorite hold in the gym?
For now the stalactite until I can get a hold past that one. The hold after that one looks like a good one but I haven’t touched it yet!

So I wanted to start something where I ask a different member every week or so some questions, take their picture, and post it on on the blog. Well this is going to be the first one. I need to come up with a name for it though….Meet The Members, Who’s That Dude/Gal?, The HH Hero’s of the month…etc. This is where I need everyone’s input. You guys should pick the name. Let’s start this off right- meet Loren & Lindsey Wood!

How long have you guys lived in Bloomington?

Lindsey- 11 Years
Loren- 15 Years

How long have you been climbing?

Lindsey- 10 years
Loren- 10 Years

What goals do you have in climbing?

Lindsey- Right now (because of pregnancy), to keep doing it.
Loren- Still be climbing trad, outside, when im in my 80′s.

What is the most valuable lesson climbing has taught you?

Lindsey- To be satisfied with my own accomplishments and where I am, and at the same time to be psyched for others for the same reason.
Loren- Humility; there is always someone stronger. Work at my own projects, towards my own goals.

What 6’6″ climber do you aspire to be like?

Lindsey- Definitely, probably, Dave Bik!
Loren- I love Jordan Garvey….Although he is a huge D.B!

Being a climbing couple…pros and cons?

Lindsey- PROS: I could always “drop him” accidentally. CONS: He could always “drop” me!
Loren- PROS: No need to make excuses about wanting to climb; we both are motivated. CONS: Sucks when your wife is stronger than you!
